Have you wondered how to get your students interested in learning more about music notation and theory? How to make it relevant to them? To get into more depth about composition and musical form?
Please consider the Schubert Club Composition Festival. Each student submits one original composition for any instrument or ensemble, and they receive comments and points toward a Composition Gold Cup. I have found that my students learn so much about music from this experience, and you don’t have to be a composer to help them with the process. It’s easier and more fun than you might think! The rules, minimum length requirements and other information can be found under the YMF tab on www.SchubertClub.org, or click here.
The composition submission via email deadline is March 1st, 2020. Please let me know if you have any questions. Wendy Kerner – Composition Chairman
“The temperature is dropping and winter is setting in. Do you find yourself cozying up with coffee and the travel section? Join WSHU on our custom tour of Budapest, Vienna, and Prague next spring! You’ll see the traditional highlights you’d expect in these beautiful cities, along with private events and fascinating sites that are off the beaten path. And you don’t have to organize a single thing.” (From a WSHU email ad)
Highlights include visiting Mozart’s home when he first arrived in Vienna and attending a concert there, attending a private concert at the home of Franz Liszt in Prague, a guided tour of the Pasqualati House where Beethoven composed his 4th, 5th and 7th symphonies, and many other fascinating destinations musical, artistic and historical.
The trip is from May 14th to May 24th, 2020. It is offered through WSHU radio station and by Earthbound Expeditions, Inc.
Contact Florence Romanov (203 246 7889) or Sylvia Corrigan (203 226 1400) if you are interested. This is a trip for the musically inclined!
I have been in contact with Meadow Ridge, Wilton and Westport Senior Centers, and other locations and they are eager to have SC members perform at their facilities. If you would like to play a full or half recital at one of these venues, please let me know and I will coordinate the events.
