ACTIVITIES
Musical Services arranges programs which involve
members in performances for community organizations, senior residences,
and convalescent facilities in the Fairfield County area. Many programs
are provided each year free of charge.
Workshop
dates from 1947 when it started with five people interested in their
study and performance of music. The Workshop presents both public and
private on a monthly basis giving members the opportunity to renew or
maintain performance skills as well as hear performances of new works
by composer members.
Chorale has been a vital part of the club since its beginning in
1910. The group rehearses weekly from October to May preparing programs
for the Christmas and spring seasons. Membership is open to all who
enjoy singing and good fellowship. New singers are welcome.
Solo Singers offers opportunities to sing and form ensembles. Two concerts are given each season with duets and trios.
Duo Pianists welcome new members to their Wednesday morning workshops and concerts.
Piano Ensemble Group is celebrating its twenty-eighth
anniversary this season. New members are welcome to attend any of the
in-studio meetings/rehearsals.
Professional Development Events are held three or four
times a year for performance classes, informal discussions on topics of
interest to music teachers and holds workshops with guest master
teachers.
Schubert Club Juniors educates young students in the art of
performance and provides them an opportunity to play before an
audience. Membership is open to any school-age student whose teacher is
a member of the Schubert Club.
Teachers' Council is open to all music teachers within the club,
and assists the Junior Schubert Club in organizing and carrying out its
activities.
Music Teachers' Roundtable is a forum to discuss topics
related to studio teaching of all instruments and voice, to share
discoveries and to support professional growth. Meetings are held on
four Friday mornings at the studios of members.

Awards Program provides music students of school age with
prizes and scholarships for musical achievement through annual
competition. Winners are presented in a public concert. In addition,
students going on to study piano at the post-secondary level may apply
for the Shirley R. Koffler Memorial Piano Scholarship offered annually
by the club. An endowment has been established to help provide this
award.

HISTORY
The Schubert Club of Fairfield County, Inc., a non-profit tax-exempt organization, was founded in the autumn of 1910 by Mrs. Frederick Schuyler Wardwell with seven charter members as the Schubert Club of Stamford.
This was a study group of performing members meeting in private homes.
By 1918, opera study was alternated with recitals performed in various
auditoriums. In 1920 guest artists were sponsored in public concerts.
The group was incorporated in 1924 under the name of the Schubert Club
of Stamford to increase, by cooperation, the general musical knowledge
of its members; to unite in common interest students and lovers of
music; and to increase the opportunity for education in music
throughout the community. In 1970 the name was changed to The Schubert Club of Fairfield County, Incorporated to reflect the broader area from which the membership was drawn. Currently, the membership stands at approximately two hundred
